When plugging an old video game system with the usual red,white,and yellow cables into back of a hdtv, there's no signal from the console to the tv. Why is that? Dreamcast and Xbox360 work fine but connecting Nintendo64 or Genesis/Megadrive it's just black.
Any idea what could help? Any help is very appreciated.

Alot of things could be the problem
like the guy who first answered said, could be the cords or the console. do you have an old tv too? try it on that to test it out, if it works there than it could probably your tvs RCA input is messed up

sometimes the cords aren’t what they seem for ex. on one tv it might be red and red but on a different tv it might be your cord red and you have to plug it into a different color or section of the tv
It may be your TV. One of my TVs can only display the supernintendo games in black and white. I went to an hdtv and it worked fine. It could just be your hdtv.
I would take a close look at the connections on the back of the TV before anything else. Component and Composite cables share some of the same colors, but if you plug, for example, a red composite lead into a red component jack, it’s not going to work (unless you happen to have a TV that was actually set up to do that… there are a few).
If you think you’re plugging into the correct jacks, then try the system on an older TV that you know for certain has composite hookups. That will at least let you determine whether the problem is in the HDTV or in the console/cable.
