@TyrannicalGOD im camparing all of which i said to PDP’s…plasma FTW..lol

TyrannicalGOD June 16, 2010 at 9:02 pm

i like your PC vids but pls dont act like you know about display technologies…there are only 2 technologies PDP’s and LCD’s…the Supposed LED TVs on the market today use LCD tech with LED backlighting…they have all the drawbacks of conventional CCFL Backlit LCDs…Slow Response times, Bad Viewing Angles, Inaccurate color reproduction, and Picture Uniformity Issues

A 120 Hz TV doesn’t automaticly mean that it has a 120 Hz input.
You might have a 60 Hz HDMI input at the back but the TV:s refresh rate is 120 Hz
This is important when it comes to the new 3D TV:s
A 3D TV requiers a 120 Hz input, not just a 120 Hz refresh rate.

i kinda wish they had done a small review of DLP televisions

Unity0Is0Power June 16, 2010 at 11:22 pm

Confused. Becuase of pulldown, would it not be better to play an xbox game locked at 60fps on 60Hz tv rather than a game running say 60fps on 120hz. I know computer games/rigs can hit high numbers like 120+ but would pulldown still make a solid 60 on 60 a better choice? Same for true cinema 24 w/ 24. Get what I’m asking?

i just got a 32 vizo 120hz for 520

tehtennis June 17, 2010 at 12:10 am

Is refresh rates really necessary when using digital? i thought it only apply s when using analog

SpecialKLSX June 17, 2010 at 12:32 am

@Spivonious Yes I, am, and yes they are available to the consumer, have been for 2 years now. They of course are expensive as hell… but then again you can debate them being available to the consumer based purely on being able to buy it at a walmart too…

Spivonious June 17, 2010 at 12:36 am

@SpecialKLSX Maybe you’re referring to OLED? They won’t be at consumer levels for at least another 2-3 years.

SpecialKLSX June 17, 2010 at 1:28 am

Wrong, there are LED TVs available. (Very hard to come by currently) a quick search for the Sony – XEL-1, the first commercially available LED tv (a miserly 11″ across) to my knowledge. Another is a LG EL9500.

Newegg seems to know their stuff, they do afterall make a load of cash, and also do vids like this to inform the masses.

hafjapmatt June 17, 2010 at 1:36 am

One issue with the video.

Component RGB does NOT output full 1080 HD, only 720p resolution.

Other than that, great overview.

Just gonna ignore DLP? I picked up a 60″ Mitsubishi for $800. Three HDMI ports, and it’s 3D-ready. You won’t find a better value. It’s 14″ deep, but it’s not like I need a 1″ thick screen when it sits on top of an entertainment center which takes up a larger footprint than the TV anyway.

Spivonious June 17, 2010 at 3:28 am

Plasma destroys LCD and LED-backlit LCD (there’s no such thing as an “LED” TV).

Newegg, stick to selling computer gear.

Excellent and thorough presentation. It was very clear, well organized, and well delivered. Very impressive.

H3rBz92 June 17, 2010 at 4:55 am

@bangbongbong Yeh, agree. Plasma despite being bigger and using more power is the superior technology. All the various TV companies marketed LCD as if it were better because it was much thinner.

FrPSh June 17, 2010 at 5:49 am

Excellent video guys. Very informative.

BonAppetitMen June 17, 2010 at 6:17 am

Paul, thank you for this nice presentation. Keep with good work. Regards from Serbia

MySteamyLoaf June 17, 2010 at 7:10 am

Dlp is still available, and is the best value for the screen size.

bangbongbong June 17, 2010 at 7:43 am

sorry newegg, bad advice, LED LCD is inferior to plasma when it comes to blacks, LED backlights crush the darkest tones. plasma is better for home theater enthusiast

mattdriver12 June 17, 2010 at 8:01 am
